Snow Goose

Snow Goose is a shallow draft (center board), double head sail ketch, that was built (of steel) in the Netherlands in 1956 at the KOK shipyards. I have been told that she was sailed around the world in the late 50’s to early 60’s and then was brought to the Chesapeake area. In the early 70’s she was brought into the Great Lakes and by the end of the 70’s she had rusted through. Two guys bought her and replaced a lot of the bottom steel plates. Later, another man bought her and did some large upgrades to her. I bought the Snow Goose, fourteen years ago and after a few years of sailing, I took her to my home for a seven year long rebuild. Now she is our floating home.

The Snow Goose is Length- 41 feet on deck, 46 feet over all * Width—12.5 Feet * Depth- 4.5 feet (board up) 10 feet (board down) * 36 foot water line * Displacement-15 ton * Mast height 55 foot above water * Sail area (about 900 sq. ft.) *Steel hull with a laid teak deck.

Anna and I have been sailing together since 2001. Edie joined our crew in 2006. In June 2009, we moved onto Snow Goose with Edie, ( the dog) and Baby (the cat).

Rich: "20 years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Lin and Larry Parday at the Holland Yacht Club and my life was changed afterwards. Their lifestyle of world travel for 9 months a year and working for 3 months every year rang a bell in my soul. I have always loved travel and adventure so after hearing their talk I was hooked. It has taken me close to 20 years of study, and experience to achieve this goal. On Oct. 1, 2009 our new life begins".

Anna: "I got my first taste of sailing in my 20s, but was unable to pursue the lifestyle. Sailing satisfies my passion for travel and adventure and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead".

Edie steering the boat.
Edie: "I'm a 9 year old Cairn terrier and I guess that the water and sailing are OK but I LOVE the feel of the wind in my face".

Baby on our bed.
Baby : "I was a feral cat and Rich found me when I was 2 weeks old. After 3 months on board Snow Goose, I decided that I'd rather live on shore so I moved to Texas with Anna's daughter Angie who, I now take care of".
