Contra Dancing

As many of our friends and family know, Rich and I enjoy contra dancing. When it was announced that there would be a dance at the bandshell in the park next to the marina, we had to go.

We enjoyed two hours of dancing. The caller did a great job.

Yoga Class

I've been going to yoga classes on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays. Today we did moon salutations. They were a nice change from the sun salutations.

The Prayer Garden at San Pablo Church

Our friends go to the neighborhood Catholic church and one evening the gal's went over to the church to view the prayer garden at night. Near the entrance of the prayer garden....

All of the statuary, bushes, and trees were covered in lights. It was beautiful to see.

My friends and I down in boot key harbor - the Four Musketeers.

I love snowflakes and this was nice display. A great end to an evening out together.

Simple Beauty

Captain Jack is the oldest boater living full time at the Marathon Marina. He gave me this flower. He said it was last one on his bush as the gardeners had severely pruned it back. The flower was absolutely beautiful and filled me with joy. His kind gesture made my morning.

Knitting and Crochet crafts

The crafting group under the Tiki hut.

This picture is really a rug! One of the gals is a professional hooker... that's rug hooker and this is just one of her fantastic works.

Very creative use of squares. It a quilted wall hanging and I'm going to make one.

Ragnar Relay Races

When we took Edie for her morning walk we ran in to the 'Ragnar Relay' runners. It was the first Ragnar Relay of the year 12013. A 200 mile relay run from Miami to Key West. I found this information on the web about the relays.

Ragnar is the overnight running relay race that makes testing your limits a team sport. A team is made up of 6-12 individuals; each individual runs 3 legs. The legs of the race vary in difficulty and distance, from 3-8 miles, allowing elite and novice runners to run together. Over 2 days and 1 night, teams run across 200 miles of the country’s most scenic terrain. Pair that with crazy costumes, inside jokes, a great finish line party and unforgettable stories. Some call it a slumber party without sleep, pillows or deodorant. We call it Ragnar.

This is one of the runners coming through Marathon just before 7:30 a.m. They had started the race the preceding day in Miami.

We talked to this couple from Minnesota for several minutes. They told us the relays were named for a Norse god and I looked that up also.

Ragnar Lodbrok (Ragnar "Hairy-Breeks", Old Norse: Ragnarr Loðbrók) was a Norse legendary hero from the Viking Age who was thoroughly reshaped in Old Norse poetry and legendary sagas.

Each runner is given this temporary tattoo to wear while running.

Many of the runners were wearing tutus and...

at least one of the girls in this relay group wore this outfit while running. Many of the runners has some sort of costume or outfit on. Who knows, Appalachian  trail last summer, 200 mile road race next winter... What do you think?

New Year's Day

We went to see Lincoln today. It was a fantastic movie. (Capt: I would recommend this to everyone... leave the kids home).

The bougainvilleas are blooming everywhere and these lovely. I wish they could grow in Michigan.

We saw many different colors of bougainvilleas: white, orange and three different shades of red but I liked this color best.

Out in front of this building we walked past a Christmas display, it took a second to notice...

The Ho Ho Ho had become H2O. Very cute.

The bushes around the CVS pharmacy building had been careful sculpted into many different shapes. I liked this one, a nice bush with the middle cut out.

Anna liked this heart.

I thought that this huge "table top" bush was really neat too.

They must have shaped this one just before the flowers came out!

We also splurged and went out to an excellent Chinese restaurant for dinner on New Years day.  Great weather, good food, fantastic movie and the roadsides filled with flowers made it a great start to the new year.
